I just spent the most relaxing weekend with my sister-in-law at Carillon Hotel in Miami Beach. Here’s what I absolutely loved:
-The oceanfront suite staring out at turquoise blue water. Excellent beds with a turndown service including bedside slippers and pillow-top chocolates.
-The spa is the best in Miami Beach. I had an Ashiatsu massage (where the specialist walks on my back barefoot)–it was the perfect deep tissue massage for a post long-run rest day. What I loved about this massage is the deep massaging is performed with a larger surface area (a big ole’ foot rather than a thumb) making the intense pressure more comfortable while delivering the same relaxing deep tissue massage results. My hamstrings were singing Hallelujah when I walked out of there.
-My anti-aging facial left my skin feeling fresh, tight, and yes, younger. My specialist, Nadine, covered my face in lotions and potions and then performed (and explained) micro-needling. Then, she painted a thick, gloopy cooling algae mask all over my face; it was incredibly refreshing, especially after coming off the hot beach. When the mask dried, she peeled it off and showed me–it was like the Mrs. Doubtfire treatment! The thick, soft, rubbery algae mask she peeled off had kept the shape of my face! Hilarious!
-The food at their top restaurant, Thyme, is mindful, local, seasonal, almost always organic…and delicious! The standout dishes were Miso Black Cod, Organic Corn Soup (with gluten free cornbread!), Chocolate Molten Lava Cake (GF) with homemade strawberry ice cream, pan seared Green Eggs for breakfast, the most incredible Greek yogurt bowl piled high with fresh fruit–the granola on the bottom was packed with honey toasted coconut shreds and delicious dried fruit, Kale Caesar Salad with wild-caught salmon, and…a passionfruit crepe that tasted like an egg custard made love with a Costa rican crepe. Holy moly.
-I loved having a beach cabana every day with that stunning oceanfront panorama.
-We drank young coconut water right out of cold coconuts on the beach! Nothing like rehydrating with nature’s best when retreating under your cabana from the sun and salt water.
-The beach was quiet and relaxing–not like typical South Beach. Carillon Hotel is in the Mid/North-Beach area and is perfect for a couples retreat while still offering family fun.
-The resort has an incredible gym and juice bar with every smoothie and elixir I could dream up. There are a long list of fitness classes at the resort taught by Miami’s top instructors; there’s even classes curated for the entire family.
-The service was impeccable. Everyone at the resort knew my name: The Concierge, the restaurant manager, the beach manager, the bellhop. Everyone! I felt like they really cared about me and my experience at Carillon.
