I can't remember where I saw this exact project, probably Pinterest, but I love several things about it. It's interactive without any batteries, it's colorful, it's festive and quick and easy to make. As soon as I taped it up to the wall, Ollie (14 months) started playing with it!
Material:
- 3 paper towel rolls
- Construction paper (red, yellow, orange)
- Piece of cardboard from a shipping box
- Pom poms
- Hot glue
- Clear tape (packing tape is best for strong grip)
- Scissors
- Black marker
Process:
- Glue each piece of construction paper around the paper towel rolls. You should have one yellow roll, one red roll, and one orange roll. These will be the turkey feathers.
- Cut out the body of the turkey from cardboard. I eyeballed the shape of a butternut squash, or an extra large peanut.
- Cut a triangle beak from leftover orange construction paper. Rip a small gobble neck out of the red paper. Glue them down as seen in example.
- Cut two white circles out for eyes. Draw black eyeballs on the circles. Glue down on turkey face.
- Glue the paper towels rolls to the back of the turkey body. I had to make some height adjustments to the center roll so they would all fit on the back of the turkey body. So long as the "feather" tubes are glued down, there's no wrong way to do this. Make sure there is nothing obstructing the bottom of the feather holes, so the Pom Pom balls fall through without getting caught.
- Tape the turkey up to the wall at a child's height. Make sure to tape the paper towel rolls to the wall on the top and bottom. Otherwise your precious turkey will be ripped from the wall in two seconds.
- Put a bowl of Pom Pom balls below the turkey and start dropping them through the feather tubes!
